“They are just so freaking cool…”
That’s what I said to Chip when we wrapped up Sam & Anthony’s engagement session in Asbury Park. It’s true! They have a welcoming down-to-earth, beachy vibe to them that makes you feel like they are old friends. It’s clear that they don’t just love each other…they really like being around one another.
Their love story is as adorable as they are. We’ll let them tell you all about it!
How did you meet?
Sam: Anthony and I met during our second week of college (September 2009). One of my roommates, Gabby, went to high school with Anthony and she introduced us at a party. I don’t remember the conversations Anthony and I had, but I do remember how handsome and nice he was! After months of getting to know each other, he took me to the beach on March 20th, 2010 and asked me to be his girlfriend.
Anthony: It took a while, but I finally convinced her!
What do you love most about each other, and what challenges you about each other?
Sam: I love that Anthony has a heart of gold. He would do (and does!) anything for me, and is so caring with his friends and family. Whenever he flies home from school, he makes it a point to see everyone he can. He challenges me by showing me that it’s okay to be vulnerable and let my emotions fly!
Anthony: Sam is so caring and thoughtful, not only about me but also my family. She makes me laugh at almost any moment by being her goofy self that not many people get to see. The biggest challenge has been the distance. After we graduated, I moved to South Florida to continue school and Sam went to nursing school at a local university. For the past 4 years, we’ve gone months at a time without seeing each other and maintained a healthy relationship. I don’t believe there are many couples who’ve experienced what we have and have come out even stronger than before.
Tell us all about the proposal!
Anthony: I proposed to Sam on December 20, 2015 in Deal, NJ. Sam thought that we were meeting her friend for lunch and we spent the day walking around campus and going to some of our favorite spots. Then I convinced her to stop at the beach where I first asked her to be my girlfriend. Honestly, I can’t remember a single word I said, but she said yes! I hired a friend and his wife as photographers who posed as fisherman and got some great shots! Afterwards, we went to a restaurant where one more surprise was waiting for Sam…our families were there to celebrate with us!
Sam: As we walked towards the water, Anthony turned to me and talked about everything we’d been through and how it was all worth it. I don’t remember most of what he said, but he got teary eyed and got down on one knee. I couldn’t believe what was happening! It was a picture-perfect day that I will always remember.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding day?
Sam: Aside from celebrating our day with all of our loves ones, I cannot wait to never leave each other again. Our long-distance relationship will be over and so will all of the airport goodbyes, “date night” face time calls, and not seeing each other for months at a time. It will be the best day of our lives for so many reasons and I could not be more excited!
Anthony: There are not many opportunities in life to get everyone who is important to you in the same room at the same time. Time to party and get our groove on!
Sam & Anthony – we can’t wait to capture your BIG day!
