As Fate Would Have It…
Kismet, fate, destiny…no matter what you call it—it’s what brought Lyndsey and Bobby together. “Bobby and I met at a wedding in January of 2013,which is super cool, because my parents met at a wedding too,” Lyndsey told us. “He is my best friend’s cousin, and another cousin tried to get us to dance all night. So, I made the move during the last song of the night and asked him to dance.”
After three and a half years of dating, Bobby coaxed Lyndsey (along with their dog, Karma) to go to the Manasquan Reservoir. “He told me he needed me to help him learn a new way to photograph landscapes,” Lyndsey said. “When we arrived, he led me to a breathtaking spot and told me to stand in front of the camera so that he could check the angle. Suddenly, he was on one knee! Obviously, I said, ‘YES!’ Afterwards, he brought me to Surf Taco, where he had all of our friends and family waiting to celebrate and my sister, a singer, was performing! It was perfect. We had our own intimate moment, then time to share it with everyone.”
The Wedding Day
Oh, this wedding! Where do we begin? Park Chateau is one of our favorite venues—the interior, the grounds and, most of all, the service are simply stellar. We had such a great time capturing the day alongside Live Picture Studios. Lyndsey and Bobby’s emotional first look brought back memories of our own wedding day, Lyndsey and her bridal party surprised the guests with a flash mob in the middle of the ceremony (right before the first kiss!), the Frankie Valli tribute band, Lights Out, rocked cocktail hour, and FNA Events made the reception unforgettable. We can’t forget he fabulous Kim Martir of Details Made Simple who kept everything running perfectly.
We’ll let Lyndsey take it from here!
What type of theme or details did you incorporate into your wedding?
Our wedding theme was winter trees, with pine cones, candles, thistle, evergreen and winter-flower accents. One of the best moments of the wedding was a surprise we had for my family. My grandfather passed away in 2010, leaving a huge hole in my heart. My goal was to incorporate him in the wedding in a big way. He grew up with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, so Bobby and I surprised my family by having Lights Out, a Frankie Valli tribute group, perform at cocktail hour.
What made you choose your venue, Park Chateau?
When I was 19 and a student at Rutgers, I travelled to Europe to play field hockey as a coach of a high school team. A chaperone (a dad of one of the players) and I were talking about weddings. I told him how I was going to get married at Nanina’s in the Park one day. Well, he laughed and reached into his jacket pocket and handed me a card. It turned out, HE was the owner of Nanina’s in the Park! I was stunned! He told me, “Whenever you want to get married, just call that number and I will make it happen. Gotta make sure the Rutger’s goalie has a great wedding.”
Fast forward seven years later, I was engaged. I was so sad that I didn’t have his card anymore! I have a lot of friends who put on galas and fundraisers, so I called a colleague and said, “Hey, I’m looking for wedding venues, any recommendations?” She said, “Actually, I just went to a wedding the other day that was outrageous! I have the owner’s cell phone number. You have to call him.”
Lo and behold, the number was the same as the owner of Nanina’s! He was opening a new venue called Park Chateau. I called and left him a message. Three hours later my phone rang, “Rutger’s goalie! I knew you’d call!” The rest is history.
You had an awesome bridal party. What advice would you give to future couples in choosing who they have stand by their side?
When choosing a bridal party, the first thought should be: NO DRAMA. We had the absolute best bridal party. They made our wedding about our love and even if there were issues, they were hidden from us. We had a perfect mix of friends and family and they had the biggest and brightest personalities. Make sure to keep the negative Nancies away!
What is your best memory from your wedding?
Collectively, our best memory was our first look. It was so intimate and special, because we were marrying each other and that was the most important thing.
Besides marrying each other, my favorite memory was our crazy insane flash mob that we did to, “This is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna. We did it right before our first kiss at the ceremony. The guests were unbelievably surprised!
Bobby’s favorite memory was at the reception, when our guests made a circle around us during “Sweet Caroline.” We ran around, high-fived everyone and danced our hearts out.
What’s another tip you have for engaged couples?
Don’t listen to anyone’s opinion. This is your wedding. Spend whatever YOU want to spend, or whatever YOU don’t want to spend. Choose a theme that matches your personality. Make you and your future spouse the most important part of the day, and through all the stress, remember why the wedding is happening at all.
Thank you, Lyndsey & Robert, for choosing us!
